-Appointed Court Clerk in Bavaria in 1841
-Appointed General Financial Secretary of the revolutionary Republic of
 Germany in 1849 at Frankfort; he held this position for 6 months until
 the Republic collapsed with the refusal of Frederick Wilhelm IV, King of
 Prussia, to accept the dignity of German Emperor; subsequently, with other
 patriots, he crossed the Rhine into Alsace-Lorraine, then in France
-He embarked at Le Havre, arriving at New York in Sep 1849; subsequently he
 engaged in the printing business in Philadelphia for 10 months
-In 1850 he returned to New York upon the emigration of his parents & there
 was engaged as a translator for a publishing house
-In 1851 accompanied by his parents he arrived in Jackson twp, Keokuk co,IA
-In 1866 he removed to Benton twp, Keokuk co,IA & purchased a 270 acre farm
 in S24 near Martinsburg
-Service in CIVIL WAR, enlisted as Private in Aug 1862 in Co. F, 33rd Iowa
 Infantry; on 2 Jun 1863 promoted to 1st Lieutenant, serving in that
 capacity until the end of the war; discharged 25 Jul 1865 at New Orleans
